Begun in 1981, the Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture is a professionally managed university gallery, funded jointly by the School of Art and the College of Architecture and Design. The gallery is free and open to the public. Student workers will assist and support the gallery in its mission to coordinate exhibitions that illustrate both historical and current attitudes in art and architecture, to support the academic goals of these respective areas; and to serve as a cultural resource for the general university and regional communities. Students with an interest in art, including non-art majors, are encouraged to apply. Hiring priority is given to returning work study students. Responsibilities Associated with the Position: • Open and monitor the gallery during posted weekend hours and evening hours (Thursday evenings until 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons from 1-4pm.) • Greet guests, record attendance, and monitor the security of the current exhibition. • Answer phone and take messages • Answer visitor questions about the current exhibition • Help with exhibition installation and deinstallation ( These duties may include: handling/moving artwork, assisting with installing artwork, painting and repairing gallery walls) • Potential to take on additional duties Schedule: 8 to 10+ per week for the entire academic year schedule permitting (August through May, with the option of working the summer sessions) during open office hours (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday- Friday) and evening hours until 7:30 on Thursdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m.) During times of exhibition installation and deinstallation, students will have an opportunity to pick up additional hours outside of their scheduled work times, class schedule permitting.
