Job Description

Positions to be filled as needed. Most hires lead to permanent placement at Thornton during academic enrollment.

Purpose or Role of the Position Within the Organization:
To assist with the daily functions of Thornton Center.

The Student Worker’s (SWs) responsibilities include:

  • Watching and verifying student-athletes as they check in and out of the building.
  • Checking student-athletes in and out of scheduled appointments.
  • Answering the phone.
  • Assisting Thornton Center Staff with projects and errands when asked and feasible.

Schedule:

  • SWs are scheduled based on their availability, seniority, and performance the previous semester.
  • During the regular academic year, Thornton Center is open 7:30am-9pm, Monday through Thursday, 7:30am-5pm, Friday and 5pm-9pm, Sunday.
  • During administrative days and mini-term, Thornton is open 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
  • During summer term, Thornton Center is open 7:30am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
Job Requirements

Qualifications Specific to the Position:

Full or part time student, undergrad or graduate student, of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Applicant cannot be a student-athlete, student sports manager, student-trainer, spirit squad member, sports ambassador, a member of the Volunteer Team section of VolCorps, or have a personal relationship or family relationship with a student-athlete. 

 
Evaluation Procedure

Students and direct supervisors will have open and ongoing communication regarding performance and development. Direct supervisors will conduct a formal performance evaluation at least one time per semester.
