Job Description

UT Office of Sustainability provides a well-organized, sustainable collection service to the university and regularly puts on educational programs that are responsive to the needs of the community on and off campus. We work with various departments and organizations to inform individuals about the importance of environmental stewardship, waste reduction, and sustainability practices.  

Responsibilities Associated with the Position:

  • Provide assistance for all events related to UT Sustainability's projects and initiviates on campus, including interacting heavily with the public at events such as UT Football games
  • Recruit, coordinate and help manage community volunteers at events
  • Come up with new event ideas to engage the campus community around the topic of sustainability and work to implement those ideas
  • Use social media to inform the community about general sustainability practices
  • Create content for monthly newsletter
  • Work independently and as a team member 

Schedule: Flexible, 10-29.5 hours per week for the entirety of the academic school year including the summer sessions, if available. Typically, these hours will be Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm, but our department will occasionally work special events late at night or weekends (e.g., during UT football games) and people in this position will be expected to work those events as part of the Sustainability team.

  • Ability to professionally communicate and convey a message concisely
  • Outgoing, friendly, articulate, and organized
  • Creative and resourceful
  • Proficient with e-mail and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as well as a team player
  • Willing to learn
Evaluation Procedure

We maintain open communication and encourage regular feedback between the Work Study staff and their supervisors.
