Job Description

UT Office of Sustainability provides a well-organized, sustainable collection service to the university and regularly puts on educational programs that are responsive to the needs of the community on and off campus. We work with various departments and organizations to inform individuals about the importance of environmental stewardship, waste reduction, and sustainability practices.  

Responsibilities Associated with the Position: 

  • Provide assistance for all events related to UT Sustainability's projects and initiatives on campus, including interacting heavily with the public at events such as UT Football games 

  • Acts as student advisor for the Sustainability Internship Program, which includes assisting with recruitment, interviews, project development, and student engagement events. 

  • Assists with the RA Sustainability Rep program by creating training materials, gathering feedback from RAs and on campus students, and scheduling programming for RA events. 

  • Gives sustainability presentations to interested partners such as student organizations, residence halls, classes, and at events. 

  • Helps develop the Make Orange Green Ambassadors program by reviewing content and identifying uses for this training certification 

  • Work independently and as a team member 

  • Must have participated in a minimum of 10 biweekly payroll periods the previous academic year

 

Job Requirements

Schedule: Flexible, 10-20 hours per week for the entirety of the academic school year including the summer sessions, if available. Typically, these hours will be Monday-Friday between between 8 a.m.-5 p.m., but our department will occasionally work special events late at night or on weekends (i.e. during UT home football games), and people in this position will be expected to work those events as part of the Sustainability team.  

  

  • Knowledgeable about sustainable practices, the campus environment and surrounding communities preferred, but not required 

  • Comfortable with public speaking, i.e. presentations 

  • Ability to professionally communicate and convey a message concisely 

  • Outgoing, friendly, articulate, and organized 

  • Creative and resourceful 

  • Proficient with e-mail and Microsoft Office Suite 

  • Ability to work independently and as a team player 

  • Willing to learn 

Evaluation Procedure

We maintain open communication and encourage regular feedback between the Work Study staff and their supervisors
