Job Description

Student assistants will gain experience in pantry operations/customer service, and represent the Center for Basic Needs and the Big Orange Pantry.  Students will be given responsibility for both short- and long- term projects with supervision and guidance from the Center for Basic Needs Operations Coordinator.

 

Responsibilities Associated with the Position:

Staff weekly pantry open hours

Receive and organize donations

Provide training and instruction to volunteers in collaboration with BOP Coordinator

Assist with outreach events for the pantry

Maintain safe and welcoming environment for pantry patrons

Research other college pantries and food assistance services

Monthy staff meetings

Working in Smokey's Closet

 

Schedule:

On-campus position (Student Union) with flexibility in scheduled work hours

 

Available Hours: Monday - Friday between 10AM-7PM & Sunday 12PM-4PM

Expected to assist with portions of our open pantry hour operations (Monday-Friday 10AM-6PM and Sunday 12-4PM)

 

Students employed may work a maximum of up to 20 hours per week or following the max set forth by their Federal Work Study

Students are responsible to work their assigned hours, it is important to organize your studying and other activities around your work schedule

 

Upon reviewing applications, students will conduct a 15-30 minute interview with a staff member on the Center for Basic Needs team.

Job Requirements

Candidates must be enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Candidates must exhibit excellent writing, speaking, and customer service skills.

Candidates must possess strong Microsoft Office and Computer Skills.

Evaluation Procedure

Students will be evaluated at both the mid-point and end of each semester. Evaluation meetings will consist of feedback for the employee regarding successes and area for growth in the position. The mid-point evaluation provides an opportunity for the employee to further grow throughout the remainder of the semester and beyond. If a student is employed year-round in the position, they will conduct 4 total evaluation meetings (2 mid-points, 2 end of semester).
