Job Description

Purpose or Role of the Position Within the Organization:
The Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education is a department of the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. It houses both the Center for Enhancing Education in Mathematics and Sciences and VolsTeach, a program to provide an attractive licensure pathway for math and science majors. CEEMS's and VolsTeach's home, in Claxton Complex, is equipped with one classroom, a student commons area, conference room, and an instructional library. 


Responsibilities Associated with the Position:

*Providing library lending services for our large teacher education lending library, including assisting teacher education students and faculty members with data entry of materials, check in/out of materials, and following-up with due and overdue materials, using the library lending software, MyTurn

*filing and organizing materials, inventory equipment and supplies (We just moved from Greve Hall to Claxton Complex, so the majority of the time will be used unpacking and organizing-edit information on the MyTurn library lending website.)

*assisting with other projects and events as needed

*copying/faxing/scanning documents

*assisting faculty and staff with deliveries between TPTE's other campus building (Bailey Education Complex and Claxton Education Complex).

Additonal Responsibilites as a Tier 2 worker:

**train tier 1 workers how to use the MyTurn inventory system, copies, printers, and other technologies.

Schedule:

10-20 hours per week for the entire academic year (August through May) during open library hours [looking for primarily those who can work Wednesday and Fridays this semester]

The library is generally open between 8am and 5pm, with varying hours for other tasks. Hours of work are flexible within student worker's class schedule

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications Specific to the Position:
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work independently
Proficiency with computer systems and applications (training will be given for MyTurn)
Some physical labor (lifting, moving, etc)
Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff

Evaluation Procedure

Evaluation Procedures:
Student library workers and direct supervisors will have open and ongoing communication regarding performance and development. Responsibilities are thoroughly outlined at opening meeting in August. Supervisor’s observations are conveyed to student workers throughout the school year regarding their fulfillment of work responsibilities
