Job Description

Purpose or Role of the Position Within the Organization: This is a Tier 3 position with advanced responsibilities for a returning FWS student.

Student workers will assist and support the award-winning WUTK 90.3's College Radio Station office, radio production, sports, music department, and others.

You will gain valuable and exciting practical experience in broadcasting, music (record and concert promotion) industry, sports radio, promotions and marketing, social media, and more. Possibly leading to other broadcast employment opportunities outside of WUTK

Responsibilities Associated with the Position:

Must Attend and work Events Outside the Station

Maintain on-air giveaways

Document writing for radio copy, production orders and radio instrumental material

Record radio spots, work on-air deejay shifts.

Voice Track overnight & any shifts without a live DJ

Assist with special projects as assigned

Assist with radio promotions on and off campus

Assist with on-campus and off-campus radio live remotes with WUTK staff members                                          

Help choose the music played on WUTK, interviewing musicians, attending and reviewing live concerts and festivals, and working live music events that are fundraisers for WUTK

Assisting with managing social media, e-newsletters, and other marketing materials 

Event calendar updates 

Website management 

General office tasks 

This job provides broadcasting access to non-profits in the east Tennessee region. We regularly run PSAs for community organizations including: Dogwood Arts, X-Hunger, Knox Pride, The Imagination Library, and more. We provide media sponsorhships and outreach to area non-profits as well. 

Schedule:

10-20 hours per week during open office hours (9am-5pm Monday-Friday, and occasional after hours events and weekends), not to conflict with class schedule.

Job Requirements

Qualifications Specific to the Position:

Being able to work in an exciting, fast-paced, fun environment that provides valuable practical life experience opportunities

Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities at once

Flexible hours to be able to work events at night and on weekends

Proficiency with computer systems, applications, website, social media platforms, and broadcasting equipment (will be trained).

Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills

A passion for music, especially new artists and new music not heard regularly in the commercial radio world.  This includes music from the Knoxville/Tennessee local and regional music scenes

An interest in the music industry, sports broadcasting, or radio broadcasting

Attention to detail & direction under limited time constraints

Able to follow instrustions, do what is asked and take initative (be proactive) on doing reacuring tasks.

Ability to speak clearly and confidently

Communication is a key form of success. Always communicate.

Evaluation Procedure

Evaluation Procedures:

Students and direct supervisors will have open and ongoing communication regarding performance and development and responsibilities within the office. 

The direct supervisor is the WUTK office manager

The WUTK sales manager will also provide supervision and training to our students.
