The UT Grow Lab is a space where students, faculty, staff, and Knoxvillians participate in hands-on learning, engage in meaningful service, conduct research, and cultivate community. The Garden Research Assistant is a hands-on position and plays a vital role in the day to day upkeep of approximately 20 raised beds. This position also exists to conduct research for different aspects of the UT Grow Lab on subjects such as native plants, vegetable plant disease, and best management practices. The ideal candidate is an organized, resourceful, enthusiastic self-starter with gardening experience. Build and maintain infrastructure for the compost research program to include growing and testing spaces. Drive trucks to pick up compost and testing soils from UT Compost Facility Plant specific varieties of plants in each growing experiment and monitor results. Collaborates with soil science labs on campus to analyze results and obtain soil sample measurements. Monitors the compost research program Maintaining garden beds at the Grow Lab as needed in collaboration with the Grow Lab Manager, Grow Lab Coordinator, and other garden assistants Coordinating with supervisor(s) to order seeds, plants, tools Other duties as assigned
