Job Description

The Math Place is located in Hodges Library Second Floor North Commons.  The Math Place offers drop in tutoring support for all students taking 100 or 200 level math courses. Student staff are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and confidentiality. This position includes the following tasks:

  • Create a welcoming environment by greeting and directing all students and visitors

  • Be attentive and available to students who come to The Math Place

  • Checking all students in and out who come to The Math Place for assistance

  • Assure students are checked in to the correct course when arriving and departing

  • Assuring students are in the correct place and directing them to the appropriate course areas for assistance

  • Help students connect with tutors if needed

  • Preparing the Hodges Library area for The Math Place daily usage; including opening and closing the location, setting out tutoring supplies, cleaning areas, etc.

  • Be aware of common questions that students have when they come in and give accurate information and directions

  • Encourage students to complete online feedback forms when leaving The Math Place

  • Learn the names of students and instructors who frequent The Math Place and strive to make personal connections with them

  • Directing and assisting students to other resources within the library

  • Other special projects as needed and assigned

 

The schedule would be based on your availability and could include hours Monday - Thursday 9:45 AM - 7 PM, Friday 9:45 AM - 3:00 PM, Sunday 2:45 PM - 7:00 PM.

  • No knowledge of math courses is required for this position

Evaluation Procedure

Student staff are evaluated based on observation and feedback from students and peers. The requirements listed above are used to determine the person's success in the role. Students and direct supervisors will have open and ongoing communication regarding performance.
