The UT Grow Lab is a space where students, faculty, staff, and Knoxvillians participate in hands-on learning, engage in meaningful service, conduct research, and cultivate community. The Grow Lab demonstrates ecological food production methods, addresses local food insecurity, contributes to a sense of place, and encourages interdisciplinary partnerships. We are looking for an engaging, passionate, and knowledgeable student to support the work done at the Grow Lab, from planting and harvesting to event planning and outreach. The ideal candidate is an organized, resourceful, enthusiastic self-starter with gardening and/or farming experience. Duties include: - Working in the garden to produce food for donation
- Maintaining aesthetic standards (weeding, planting, etc.), walkways, tool shed, and garden surround
- Maintaining planting/harvesting schedule
- Coordinating with designers of research and class plots
- Collecting qualitative data on vegetable trial crops
- Making produce donation deliveries
- Helping recruit and manage volunteers
Schedule: Flexible. Typically, hours will be Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm, but our department will work special events late at night or weekends (e.g., during UT football games). |
