The Zero Waste Assistant will be expected to assist with Zero Waste Events, football game-days, implementation of My Tiny Trash, the Green Office program, bin and signage standardization, and waste audits. This position will involve communication skills, some physical labor, and occasionally digging through trash. Zero waste efforts are an integral part of reaching UTK’s goal of reaching a 50% diversion rate by 2030. Qualifications Ability to effectively communicate information about our projects Ability to work independently with direction as needed Motivated to promote sustainability and encourage sustainable habits to others Willingness to learn all about recycling and trash (what can go where) Ready to lift, move, carry, and wash bins (ability to lift 30lbs) Not afraid to get dirty Required to work some football games in the fall. Willing to help with events, posters, & computer work Positive attitude!
Preferred Schedule: Flexible, 10-20 hours per week for the entirety of the academic school year including the summer sessions, if available. Can work up to 29.5 hrs when classes are not in session. Typically, these hours will be Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm, but our department will occasionally work special events late at night or weekends (e.g., during UT football games) |
