Job Description

This position is for students with significant prior experience as a lab assistant in the Printmaking Studios and who wish to continue building knowledge of studio operations. Specific duties include:

--Maintain working spaces in AA241 by cleaning and organizing.
--Monitor open studio hours, assisting students as needed, directing them to resources within the studio.
--Ensure safety adherence including appropriate use of ventilation and PPE.
--Proactively monitor studio supplies, restock and/or communicate with 2D Technician about supplies that need to be reordered.
--Weekly: Create and complete a tasklist based on needs you observe, with input from 2D Technician.
--Suggest improvements to studio safety, organization, and efficiency.
--Prepare and lead a technical demonstration for printmaking students.
--Engage in professional practice activities under the mentorship of 2D Technician. 

--Help lead end-of-semester Clean Up day.
--Assist 2D Technician in special projects as needed.

Schedule:
Position available for fall and spring semester with possible Mini Session and Summer Sessions. Hours are flexible, with some evening availability preferred. Must be available for Clean Up Day, usually scheduled during finals, 8am–noon. 

Job Requirements

--At least 1 year of prior experience working as a Printmaking Lab Assistant.
--Prior completion of at least three college-level courses in printmaking, or equivalent experience in academic print studio.

--Desire to acquire advanced knowledge of the operations of a printmaking lab.
--Good interpersonal communication skills. Comfortable engaging with others in shared spaces. 
--Dedication to safety and willingness to encourage safe practices and lead by example.
--Strong organization skills.
--Interest in purpsuing professional opportunities in the visual arts, design, or related fields. 

 

Evaluation Procedure

This position works closely with the 2D Technician who will monitor weekly tasks and engage in open and ongoing communication regarding expectations and learning interests. A written performance evaluation will be given at the end of each semester.
