Job Description

This position is for students with prior experience working as a Lab Assistant in the School of Art's Photography studios and who has an interest in deepening their knowledge of studio operations. Specific duties include:

—Maintain working spaces in AA239 by cleaning and organizing.
—Monitor open studio hours, assisting students as needed, directing them to resources within the studio.
—Ensure safety adherence including appropriate use of chemicals and PPE.
—Take inventory of consumables, restock and/or communicate with supervisor about supplies the need to be reordered.
—Maintain SDS binder.
—Help organize and lead end-of-semester Clean Up Day.
—Prepare and deliver technical demonstration to students. 
—Research and suggest studio improvements.
—Assist in studio improvement projects as needed.
—Engage in professional practice activies under the mentorship of faculty and/or 2D Technician.

 

Job Requirements

--At least 1 year of prior experience working as a Photography Lab Assistant.
--Prior completion of at least two college-level courses in Studio Art Photography, or equivalent experience in academic photo studio.

--Desire to acquire advanced knowledge of the operations of a photo lab.
--Good interpersonal communication skills. Comfortable engaging with others in shared spaces. 
--Dedication to safety and willingness to encourage safe practices and lead by example.
--Strong organization skills.
--Interest in pursuing professional opportunities in the visual arts, design, or related fields. 

Evaluation Procedure

This position works closely with Photography Area faculty and the SOA 2D Technician who will monitor tasks and engage in open and ongoing communication regarding expectations and learning interests.
