Purpose or Role of the Position Within the Organization: The work-study student provides a variety of support to the program as a whole while primarily to the administrative team at the Early Learning Center. The ELC is an early childhood center which exists as part of the college of Health and Human Sciences.The ELC has eight classrooms serving children six weeks old to six years old. The mission of the ELC is to foster scientific understanding of young children’s development. The ELC accomplishes this mission through (a) interdisciplinary research, (b) academic programs for young children, and (d) outreach, advocacy, and public policy.
Responsibilities Associated with the Position: The work study student may answer phone calls, secure the front door by letting in visitors and directing them to sign in, complete administrative tasks such as typing, laminating, uploading photos, printing, transcribing, filing, cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies. Opportunities to interact with children and teachers in a classroom setting might be available if the work study student shows interest and demonstrates a willingness to be mentored in that type of environment. Students are encouraged to ask questions about our program, spend time playing with the children, take initiative to complete daily tasks and use their time here to discover interests and strengths in the administrative and early childhood education areas. Assigned tasks will vary based on the work study student’s dependability, work ethic, interests, and cooperative spirit. Schedule: The ELC is open Monday- Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The work study student will work no more than 20 hours per week. Schedules will be established based on course schedules each semester and program needs.
