Job Description

The Office of Sustainability’s role is to foster sustainable development and promote social and environmental responsibility, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals, by providing services that reduce waste, consumption, food insecurity, greenhouse gas emissions, and water and soil pollution. We work with various departments and organizations to inform individuals about the importance of environmental stewardship, waste reduction, and sustainable practices. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Alternative Energy and Transportation Coordinator with data collection, event planning, research development, and publishing
  • Provide assistance for events related to sustainable projects and initiatives on campus
  • Recruit, coordinate, and help manage community volunteers at events
  • Come up with new event ideas to engage the campus community around the topic of sustainability and work to implement those ideas
  • Cooperate with Social Media assistant
  • Meet weekly, at least once, virtually or in person with the Alternative Energy and Transportation Coordinator
  • Assist Alternative Energy and Transportation Coordinator with event planning and execution
  • Help the Office of Sustainability with research, reports, and other environmental content

Schedule: 5-15 hours weekly, flexible, typically during office hours (8-5 PM) with some exceptions for events and meetings that will occur in the evening.

  • Knowledgeable about sustainable practices, the campus environment, and surrounding communities
  • Ability to professionally communicate and convey a message concisely
  • Outgoing, friendly, articulate, and organized
  • Creative and resourceful
  • Proficient with e-mail and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as well as a team player
  • Willing to learn
  • Highly organized and experienced with data collection and analysis
  • Motivated, communicative, and honest
Evaluation Procedure

We maintain open communication and provide all team meetings twice a semester, mid-semester, and end-of-semester check-ins.
