Job Description

 

This is position is for a returning student to work in the BCMB Office. The applicant should have 2+ years of experience in an office setting. This is an administrative role in the BCMB Office. The student must be flexible, organized, and knowledgeable in Microsoft applications.  The student should be friendly & professional.
 

Responsibilities Associated with the Position:
1. Have a good working knowledge of the BCMB department.

2. Answer the telephone, answer questions or direct them to the right staff member.

3. Deliver documents to various locations on campus.

4. Aid with the equipment inventory; verifying equipment, decon equipment (as needed), surplus equipment.

5. Monitors the supply inventory & creates the supply order for admin in the office.

6. Solely responsible or setup/breakdown of seminar and colloquium food/coffee.

7. Distributes mail. Filing as needed, as well as working with admin on organizing areas in the office.

8. Assist teaching faculty members in labs such as; washing glassware, data entry, cleaning, etc.

9. Weekly cleaning in the office; vacuuming, dusting, trash disposal, etc.

10. Other duties as needed

Job Requirements

 

·         Must be an undergraduate student and be enrolled with good academic standing at the University of Tennessee.

·         The student should be a returning work study student.

·         2+ years of office experience.

·         Needs to be able to answer BCMB related questions asked by students, parents, and staff in a professional manner.

·         Must possess good organization skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

·         Excellent oral skills.

 Summary:

·         The student has increased responsibility working with the equipment inventory process.

·         The student has increased responsibility of general activities in the office. This student understands the ins/outs of the office dynamic; jumps in to assist on duties that are not normally assigned to them.

·         The student has more responsibility related to office supply ordering and maintaining the supply inventory.

Evaluation Procedure

 

There is daily interaction with the direct supervisor. Student and direct supervisor will have ongoing communication regarding performance and development. Direct supervisor will conduct a formal performance evaluation at least one time per semester.
