Center for Financial Wellness (CFW)

The Center for Financial Wellness (CFW) delivers high-impact practices to increase financial wellness knowledge and money management skills by delivering high-quality workshops, individualized coaching, and other learning experiences. CFW is a part of the Division of Enrollment Management, which includes offices such as One Stop Student Services, Office of the University Registrar, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Position Overview

The Center for Financial Wellness (CFW) is seeking enthusiastic and outgoing students to serve as Financial Wellness Ambassadors. This Federal Work-Study position is designed for students who are passionate about helping their peers develop financial confidence and awareness.

This role focuses on peer outreach—not financial coaching. Ambassadors help spread awareness about CFW services, promote events, and normalize conversations about money on campus.

Job Requirements

What You’ll Do:

  • Represent CFW at events, presentations, and outreach efforts.
  • Use email, social media, digital tools, and in-person promotion to connect with students.
  • Partner with student orgs and campus offices to spread the word about CFW.
  • Look for student events and engagement opportunities to grow our presence.
  • Start peer-to-peer conversations to introduce students to CFW and encourage them to get involved.
  • Help plan fun, interactive events like Cones & Loans, giveaways, and Financial Literacy Month campaigns.
  • Attend weekly meetings and trainings to grow your outreach and leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with campus-wide student leaders to increase visibility and impact across campus.
  • Gather and share feedback to help improve our outreach efforts.

Time Commitment:

  • 10–20 hours per week (August–May).
  • Some work happens outside regular office hours at student events or group meetings.
  • Must attend required training and weekly team meetings.
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities available.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfortable engaging peers and initiating conversations in public settings.
  • Creative thinker with an interest in outreach, marketing, and peer education.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and a positive, approachable attitude.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to manage time well.
  • Passionate about creating a more informed and financially confident campus community.
  • No prior financial knowledge required, training will be provided.

Eligibility:

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student at University of Tennessee, Knoxville in good academic standing.

 

Evaluation Procedure

Financial Wellness Ambassadors will receive regular feedback and support to help them grow in their role. Performance will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Engagement & Initiative – Actively participates in outreach, events, and team meetings; demonstrates enthusiasm and reliability.
  • Communication Skills – Effectively communicates with peers, staff, and campus partners; maintains a positive and professional attitude.
  • Team Collaboration – Works well with other ambassadors and staff; contributes to a supportive and inclusive team environment.
  • Outreach Impact – Completes assigned tasks; demonstrates creativity and follow-through in peer engagement and promotional efforts.
  • Professional Growth – Shows progress in knowledge of financial wellness topics, leadership, and outreach strategies.
  • Time Management – Consistently meets scheduling expectations, completes hours as agreed, and communicates in advance if adjustments are needed.

Ambassadors will receive informal feedback throughout the semester and participate in a formal evaluation each semester (typically mid-semester and end-of-semester). Evaluations will be conducted by the CFW staff supervisor and may include a self-assessment and goal-setting for continued growth.
