Job Description

Community Learning & Engagement is searching for a highly motivated undergraduate
Student Library Assistant (SLA) to assist with STEM literacy and outreach initiatives for
K-12 students. Candidates will be expected to work closely, oftentimes one-on-one, with
the Community Learning & Engagement team throughout the workweek.

Candidates should expect their primary role to be assisting the department in the
creation, execution, and implementation of STEM outreach programs, although the SLA
may generally choose which of the outreach programs to dedicate their time to. Strong
applicants should have well-developed oral and written communication skills, flexibility,
excellent organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities / Duties
? Assist in building, facilitating, and implementing outreach programs
? Work closely, in-person, and/or 1:1 with the entire Community Learning &
Engagement department
? Interact digitally and in-person with K-12 community partners
? Plan, record, and evaluate program events
? Frequent digital communication
? Assist with other departmental tasks as needed

Job Requirements

Qualifications
Required
? Undergraduate student
? Able to work a minimum of 6 hours per week
? Experience with Microsoft 365
? Must be dependable and punctual
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills
? Highly organized and detail-oriented
? Interest in STEM outreach for K-12 students
? Experience in research and writing
? Experience in creating dynamic and engaging presentations

Preferred
? Experience with additional software preferred (social media, graphic design,
project management, Canva, etc.)
? Research, writing, instruction, and presentation skills
? Familiarity with creative and emerging technology
? Providing any experience, involvements, passions, and/or projects in STEM
would be welcome

Evaluation Procedure

Student employees in the Community Learning & Engagement department will be supervised by Assistant Dean Thura Mack and Library & Engagement Specialist Angelica Nepomuceno. For the first two weeks, student employees will receive training from their supervisors and peer employees. Following this initial training, supervisors will provide ongoing feedback and guidance to help students improve their performance. This includes regular observation of student work and providing constructive feedback as needed. There will be scheduled check-ins and opportunities for student employees to provide feedback on their work experience with our department.
