Job Description

The Department of Political Science is looking for Federal Work-Study Students who are dependable and can follow instructions to provide assistance and support the department in daily operations.  The department is looking for students who are self-motivated and will not require constant reminders of daily tasks.

Responsibilities associated with the position include but are not limited to:

  • Answering phones, taking and delivering messages
  • Delivery to other campus offices and departments
  • Routine copying and scanning projects
  • Cover desks or workstations during personnel breaks, meetings, and during busy times
  • Make sure office machines have paper and other supplies as needed
  • Distribute mail and put supplies away
  • Escort visitors as needed to other departments or campus locations
  • Check inventory of supplies and SWAG, as well as helping maintain the easy access of these items
  • Help to maintain a clean environment during cold and flu season
  • Assist with filing, cleaning out files as needed, and preparing offices for new faculty.  Some heavy lifting may be required.
  • Maintain office bulletin boards, directories, and decorations.  Students may be asked to help decorate for various functions including homecoming, recruitment events, and holidays throughout the year.

 

Schedule: Regular office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.   Federal Work Study Students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week.  Work schedules are determined based on each student’s academic class schedule

Preference will be given to students majoring in Political Science.

Evaluation Procedure

Students and direct supervisors will have open and ongoing communication regarding performance and development.

Students with a favorable evaluation have the possibility of continuing with the department in this position in the next semester if they are eligible for the Federal Work Study Program.

Our office is open during the summer.  We would continue successful students’ employment if a student were interested and taking summer classes.
