Job Description |
The Department of World Languages & Cultures (WLC) is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and reliable Federal Work-Study student to serve as the WLC Social Media Ambassador. The student will help strengthen the department’s digital presence and promote its academic programs, events, and opportunities to the UT community. The Social Media Ambassador will create engaging content for WLC social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Reddit, and other channels. Responsibilities will include developing social media posts, creating short-form videos, taking photographs, interviewing students, faculty, and alumni, and helping promote WLC majors, minors, certificates, courses, study abroad opportunities, cultural events, student organizations, and career opportunities. The student will work collaboratively with WLC faculty and staff to develop creative ways to showcase the department’s languages, cultures, programs, and student experiences and to build a vibrant and unified social media presence across WLC. The ideal candidate is creative, outgoing, dependable, and comfortable communicating with students, faculty, and staff. Experience with social media, Canva, video editing, photography, or other forms of digital content creation is preferred but not required. Job Requirements |
Must be a currently enrolled University of Tennessee, Knoxville student who is eligible for Federal Work-Study (FWS). Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Strong interest in social media, digital communication, storytelling, and content creation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Creative, enthusiastic, dependable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. Comfortable interacting with and interviewing students, faculty, alumni, and other members of the WLC community. Ability to create engaging, student-focused content appropriate for social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Reddit, and other digital channels. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple content assignments. Attention to detail and good judgment when creating and publishing content representing the Department of World Languages & Cultures and the University. Willingness to learn about and promote WLC programs, majors, minors, certificates, courses, study abroad opportunities, cultural events, student organizations, and career opportunities. Interest in languages, cultures, international experiences, and the diverse academic programs represented within WLC. Familiarity with social media platforms is expected. Experience with Canva, photography, video recording/editing, graphic design, or other digital content-creation tools is preferred but not required. Previous experience managing a social media account for a student organization, academic program, business, or other organization is a plus but is not required. Students from all WLC language programs are encouraged to apply.

Evaluation Procedure |
The WLC Social Media Ambassador will be evaluated through regular supervision and feedback from the position supervisor. Performance will be assessed based on the following criteria: Quality, creativity, accuracy, and professionalism of social media and digital content produced. Ability to complete assigned projects and meet established deadlines. Reliability, punctuality, and consistent completion of scheduled work hours. Initiative in developing ideas for engaging content and promoting WLC programs, events, and opportunities. Effective communication and collaboration with the supervisor, faculty, staff, students, and other members of the WLC community. Ability to follow departmental and University guidelines when creating and sharing content. Responsiveness to feedback and willingness to revise or improve content as needed. Professionalism and appropriate judgment when representing the Department of World Languages & Cultures on social media. Overall contribution to strengthening WLC's social media presence and increasing student engagement with departmental programs and activities.
The supervisor will provide ongoing feedback throughout the semester and will meet with the student periodically to review progress, discuss upcoming priorities, and identify areas for continued growth. |
