Job Description

Position Summary

The Innovation & Technology Research Assistant supports Enrollment Management by researching emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, software products, and other digital solutions.

This is an entry-level position for a student who is curious about technology and enjoys learning, researching, and organizing information. The student does not need to be a technology expert. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, asks questions, and can gather and summarize information clearly.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research technology products, vendors, AI tools, and emerging technology trends.
  • Gather information from websites, vendor materials, demonstrations, and other resources.
  • Assist with comparing products based on features, capabilities, pricing, and other considerations.
  • Research how other universities and organizations are using technology and AI.
  • Organize findings into summaries, charts, spreadsheets, or presentations.
  • Document key information, observations, and potential technology use cases.
  • Assist with special projects, technology evaluations, and innovation initiatives.
  • Attend meetings or vendor demonstrations when appropriate and document key takeaways.
  • Provide general research and project support to the Associate Director of Innovation and Technology.
Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Current University of Tennessee, Knoxville student eligible for Federal Work-Study.
  • Interest in technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, or research.
  • Strong internet research and information-gathering skills.
  • Good written communication and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Comfortable asking questions and learning new topics.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience is not required, but interest or experience in the following is helpful:

  • Artificial intelligence or emerging technologies
  • Research or information gathering
  • Comparing products or services
  • Data analysis or visualization
  • Creating presentations or reports
  • Business, technology, communications, marketing, information sciences, or related fields

Students from any major are encouraged to apply.

Evaluation Procedure

The student will receive monthly feedback to discuss current work, progress, questions, and any areas for improvement.

At the end of each semester, a more comprehensive performance review will be completed to discuss strengths, areas for growth, progress toward expectations, accomplishments, and readiness for additional responsibilities as appropriate.
